US music streamer Senzari buys up Wahwah.fm, readies for German launch2012-10-30 15
Wahwah.fm, a location-based music-sharing app, went offline mid this year, citing an overhaul of its technical infrastructure to work on its licensing approach.
“We also wanted to be present on a more international level,” explains wahwah founder Philipp Eibach to VentureVillage. “Senzari has a highly advanced recommendations system that we wanted to integrate to create the perfect listening experience. It became the perfect match.”
Senzari, a rival service to Pandora, is live in the US, UK, Spain and Brazil, and is now looking to hire at least 10 people in Berlin to work alongside Eibach. Since wahwah’s Summer departure, its seven full-time workers went on to work for other projects, “now the deal is done I’d hope to get those people back on board,” says Eibach.
Eibach will now be put in charge of Senzari’s German department as managing director, and be made responsible for the company’s mobile development.
Senzari and wahwah remain tight-lipped on details of the all-stock deal; “let’s just say that it was bought for a bit less than Instagram,” jokes Eibach.
Eibach says wahwah’s app infrastructure won’t go to waste as he looks to integrate it with Senzari, citing on Facebook: “Together we will bring back the wahwah.fm experience, but even better. Stay tuned.”
The Berlin office has started working on the first mobile version of Senzari at co-working space Betahaus, where they’re looking to extend Senzari’s service to iOS, Android, and Windows devices.
The company will unveil its initial concept of Senzari mobile at LeWeb Paris on 4-6 December.
